Abstract

The article analyzes the dynamics and regional differences of fertility indicators among women under the age of 25 in Russia. The analysis is based on data from the 2020 Population Census on women's age at the birth of their first child, as well as on estimates of the average number of children born to women under the age of 25, calculated on the basis of single-year age-specific fertility rates. A significant decline in the average number of children born to women under the age of 25 has been identified, beginning with cohorts born in the late 1960s; this decline slowed somewhat among cohorts born in the second half of the 1980s, but intensified again among women born in the 1990s. In a number of regions, additional financial support is provided at the birth of a child to women under the age of 25; however, the downward trend in fertility indicators in this age interval among real cohorts has not yet been halted.
