The second chapter examines the pandemic of the Russian fl u of 1889–1890, the news of which was covered daily in the periodical press of the Russian Empire. Based on pre-revolutionary material (reports of the Russian army, periodicals, articles from medical publications), a review of sources regarding the place and time of the virus’ occurrence, spread, symptoms, morbidity and excess mortality was carried out.
