Abstract

The well‑being of the population serves both as a resource for the successful, steady development of the state and as an indicator that allows us to judge the effectiveness of the socio‑economic policy implemented in the country. This article systematizes the theoretical and methodological approaches used by modern Russian scholars to identify the dynamics and level of the social and economic well‑being of the population. The differentiation of approaches based on factors (indicators) of well‑being has been defined: material and non‑material; objective and subjective; based on methods of assessing or measuring the level (statistical and sociological); based on demographic characteristics; based on scale (comprehensive/individual indicators); based on the territory where the population lives. The results of the study can be used for further study of the phenomenon of “well‑being” and for analyzing practical opportunities to improve the level and quality of life of Russians.
