Abstract

This monograph examines OECD countries as a gradually emerging new destination for labor emigration from Tajikistan. Particular attention is paid to the reorientation of some Tajik labor migrants from Russian regions to alternative foreign labor markets. It examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of labor emigration and labor immigration, internal and external factors in migration behavior, the traditional Russian destination, and new channels of labor, educational, and professional mobility to OECD countries. Migration flows, visa and educational mechanisms, remittances, labor recruitment, and the socioeconomic consequences of external labor migration for Tajikistan are analyzed. It is argued that OECD countries are not replacing the Russian destination but gradually complementing it, expanding the migration trajectories of Tajik labor migrants and creating new opportunities, risks, and challenges for Tajikistan's migration policy. For a wide range of specialists working on international labour migration issues, including researchers, practitioners and decision-makers in the field of migration policy.
