Abstract

Conflicts arising in cyberspace evolve from simple disagreements into serious threats to social stability. The process by which verbal disagreements escalate into organised activity, including targeted harassment, public vilification and attacks on certain social groups, creates conditions for the undermining of the social system and the emergence of multifaceted challenges for the authorities. The risk of virtual confrontation turning into real clashes remains acute, actively promoted by the most radical representatives of the online community. In order to determine the prevailing public sentiment on Telegram, a qualitative content analysis method was applied, including a detailed study of news reports and accompanying discussions in the comments. The results of the study indicate a growing trend towards radicalisation of public attitudes in Russia, the roots of which appear to lie in a widespread sense of potential danger and lost security. In this situation, citizens are actively seeking tools to protect their rights, leading to the formation of various civic initiatives and associations whose main task is to counter perceived threats. A significant factor increasing the risks of a transition to overt forms of social conflict is growing discontent, concentrated on issues of migration. Against the backdrop of scientific research in the field of migration flow regulation and the growth of xenophobic sentiments among the local population, relevant initiatives are being introduced into the legislative system. These draft regulations, aimed at tightening control over the stay of foreigners, are designed to increase the effectiveness of administrative supervision of their activities within the Russian Federation.
