Abstract

The purpose of this scientific article is to provide a comprehensive analysis of contemporary intra-Russian migration, with a specific focus on the demographic situation in the Far Eastern Federal District. Particular attention is paid to the historical formation of the region’s Russian population, the identification of the causes and consequences of its ongoing depopulation, and the development of proposals to mitigate the adverse effects of this process. The research methodology is based on an integrated approach that encompasses historical analysis of migration flows, statistical data processing, and comparative analysis of selected socio-economic indicators. Special emphasis is placed on examining the factors affecting population mobility. The scientific novelty lies in the systemic approach to analysing migration processes, which takes into account the historical experience of regional development. The findings indicate a critical demographic situation in the Russian Far East: since 1991, the region has lost 2,34 million people. It is shown that net migration outflows are persistent and stem from a combination of challenges, including high consumer prices, a shortage of a high-quality labor market, severe climatic conditions, and poor transport accessibility. It is particularly emphasized that the outflow of young people and skilled professionals is the most intense. Future research prospects involve continued study of migration processes and the formulation of effective measures to stabilize the region’s demographic situation. The results can be applied in shaping migration policy and socio-economic development programs for the Far East.
