Abstract

The purpose of the study is a comprehensive comparative assessment of the demographic development of the Russian Baltic region, including the recording of the main processes and their causes. The study methodology is based on comparing the Baltic region and its constituent parts with general demographic processes. The main research methods were comparative, statistical, descriptive, historical-genetic and inductive analysis, and zoning. The results of the study. In the context of modern geopolitical problems, studies of Russian geostrategic regions are becoming particularly relevant. One of these regions is the Baltic region of Russia, which in different historical periods included different territories. Currently, the region is very problematic in its demographic development. The concentration of capital and added value in the largest cities leads to the desolation of the remaining territories, outpacing the decline in the birth rate. The demographic development of the Kaliningrad Region is also problematic, but its unique natural and recreational potential makes it possible to develop a rural, dispersed settlement system on its territory, which should be based on peasant farms and households of the population. In this case, its socio-demographic development will proceed at a high pace. A general alignment of regional socio-economic development at the federal level is urgently needed for the successful socio-demographic development of the Baltic region. Prospective studies can be aimed at analyzing the situation at the municipal level, as well as further tracking the demographic situation over time.
