Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the role of women in the political system of Russia in the context of the implementation of state policy and the protection of women's interests. The question of the extent to which women's representation in government is associated with the nomination and promotion of bills aimed at solving specifically female problems: protection from domestic violence, support for family and motherhood, reproductive rights, equal pay, combating discrimination and increasing access to political participation. Based on a comparison of Russian and foreign experience, it has been shown that the political presence of women in most countries is associated with a higher probability of legislative initiatives in the field of family policy, combating violence, social support and gender equality. At the same time, the numerical indicators of representation themselves do not guarantee the automatic promotion of the «female» agenda: party affiliation, institutional conditions, access to the agenda and the type of political regime are crucial. For Russia, it was concluded that women's participation in politics remains a significant, but insufficiently institutionalized resource for protecting the social interests of women.
