Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify barriers hindering the socio-cultural adaptation of foreign students to South Russian universities. The methodology of the study is based on empirical data obtained as a result of a sociological study among foreign students in universities in the South of Russia. In the course of the research, the method of a questionnaire survey was applied. Research results. International student mobility has increased significantly in recent years, and Russia is becoming more and more popular destination. At the same time, students from other countries face a number of problems in the process of adaptation in a new socio-cultural and educational environment. The analysis of the data obtained as a result of the conducted sociological research revealed the following barriers to the socio-cultural adaptation of foreign students in the universities of the South of Russia: 1) the language barrier; 2) difficulties in accepting Russian culture, norms and rules of behavior; 3) stereotypes and false associations with the Russian state and people; 4) the relationship between the host community and international students. The prospect of the study. The data obtained as a result of the study can be further used in the development of methodological recommendations for overcoming difficulties in the process of socio-cultural adaptation of foreign students in universities of the South of Russia.
