Abstract

The issues of middle class in Russian society are covered in many research papers by Russian and even foreign scholars. And that is quite natural, as on the one hand, the middle class performs a number of very important social functions (such as sustaining social and economic stability, providing the economy with highly skilled workforce, creating demand for highly innovative goods and services, etc.), and on the other hand, it undergoes highly dynamic development compared to other social entities, having emerged across the world fairly recently in humankind’s history. In Russia in particular, calling a certain social stratum the middle class became possible only late last century.
