The study is based on the materials of a mass sociological survey conducted in the republics of the North Caucasian Federal District of the Russian Federation in 2016. As a result of the analysis, a common trend for all the republics was found: the inhabitants of all the republics of the North Caucasus have the best attitude towards the followers of Islam and Orthodox Christianity. The followers of Judaism, Catholicism and Buddhism also received fairly high marks; followers of other religions, regardless of the history of their distribution in the region and proximity to the religion professed by the respondents, evoked mostly negative responses from the respondents. This article attempts to analyze the current situation, taking into account the history of the spread and dialogue of religions in Russia over the past century and a half. In conclusion, conclusions are drawn and ways to overcome the negative attitude towards congenial religions are proposed.
