Abstract

The purpose of the study is to assess the losses of Russian youth, determined by behavioral risk factors, primarily deviant behavior. Methodology. The analysis is based on Rosstat data on the mortality of the population aged 15–24 years in the nosological aspect. An indicator of losses associated with deviant behavior is mortality due to violence directed both outside and on oneself (murder and suicide), as well as the consequences of alcoholism and drug addiction. In addition, as young people are concerned, the risks associated with unsafe sexual behavior, primarily through HIV-related deaths, cannot be ruled out. Results. In the last decade, positive shifts in losses due to deviant behavior have been noted, the rate of which exceeds the rate of reduction in the overall mortality of Russian youth. In the context of deviant behavior against the background of suicide, drugs have replaced alcohol as the main constant of losses, while risky sexual behavior (casual relationships, unprotected sex) is becoming an increasingly significant factor. The prospects of the study are to study the regional variation in the lethal outcomes of deviant behavior and the factors that determine it.
