Abstract

The article is devoted to the problems of the development of Russian small towns in a changing world. Based on the analysis of the conducted research, the socio-cultural problems of the development of small towns in relation to a large city are presented. The features of the concept of “culture” and “education” are considered. The causes of the crisis in small towns and ways to solve it are shown. The role of authorities, city self-government, local business community, civil communities in the possibility or impossibility of the development of living conditions and socio-cultural reproduction of small towns is emphasized. A systematic approach to the development of the socio-cultural space is proposed. The main urgent tasks of small town development are highlighted to accelerate strategic movement in the spatial development of Russia.
