Abstract

The article discusses such a phenomenon as the subculture of small towns on the example of the Nizhny Novgorod region. Small towns are peculiar keepers of culture, for which the peculiarity is their colorfulness and uniqueness, representing the so-called socio-cultural factor affecting the perception of reality and its transmission from generation to generation. Using the example of the Nizhny Novgorod region, its historical, geographical and demographic specifics, whose population includes representatives of many nationalities and faiths, municipal districts with differences in socio-economic development are identified. This circumstance is extrapolated to the mentality of small towns. Subcultural trends characteristic of various small towns of the Nizhny Novgorod region, as well as for any municipality, are considered.
