The article uses a methodology for the analysis of excess mortality of the population, called the covid mortality multiplier (СMM). This approach to research is based on the understanding that coronavirus is not only directly the cause of death of people, but also causes a chain reaction of premature deaths in society caused by overload of the healthcare infrastructure, limited financial, human, medicinal and medical-technological resources. A review of operational data and statistical publications on mortality from the COVID-19 pandemic and its medical, social, and economic consequences has been carried out. The analysis of factors of differentiation of total, excess and covid mortality in 2020, selection and statistical (correlation) analysis of factors of differentiation of mortality by regions of Russia in 2020-2021 is presented. Conclusions are drawn that the composition of the factors of regional differentiation of mortality in the Russian Federation has changed significantly in 2021, when the adaptation of society and the health system to the pandemic took place and methods of countering COVID-19 were worked out.
