Abstract

The monograph of Pitirim Sorokin, published in English in 1942, completes almost 25 years of research by the Russian sociologist on the sociology of revolution, sociology of hunger, etc. These four monsters, as the sociologist calls them, are still tormenting humanity. Although the nature of social cataclysms has naturally changed in our time, their sociological component, as well as the patterns of human behavior identified and described by Sorokin, have remained the same.
