Abstract

The book presents two works by the outstanding German philosopher Max Scheler (1874–1928) – “On the Phenomenon of the Tragic” and “On the Meaning of Suffering”. The first is published in a new translation, the second – in a new edition. Both saw the light in the First World War, which makes them consonant with our time. Today humanity is again on the verge of a global catastrophe. On the western borders of Russia, a “special military operation” is underway, the prologue of the third world war. The ability to adequately meet tragic events, to worthy survive personal tragedy, pain and suffering, readiness for sacrificial service and self-sacrifice largely depends on the correct understanding of what all these phenomena are in essence, on the assimilation of the cultural and historical experience of overcoming them. The works of M. Scheler, written from the standpoint of traditional Christian values, help develop these personality traits. The book is addressed to everyone who is interested in philosophy, ethics, psychology.
