Abstract

The history of the development of regional studies in the People's Republic of China in the period after the start of the policy of reforms and openness is considered. The search for and implementation of strategies for regional spatial development in the conditions of market relations led to the adaptation of these theories to the conditions of Chinese reality. The uniqueness of Chinese regional studies was the development of its own theory and practice of regional studies, which explained the causes of regional problems in the transition to market relations while maintaining a planned socialist economy.
