Abstract

The purpose of the study is to identify patterns of transformation of the settlement system of Chuvashia, with an emphasis on the Cheboksary agglomeration. The methodological basis of the research is made up of general logical methods, methods of statistical research, geoinformation methods (construction of cartograms, isochrones). Data sources were data from EMISS, Rosstat, Chuvashstat, local history sources, data from the All-Russian Population Census-2010, and estimated data on the population in settlements for 2020. The results of the study include an overview of the socio-economic situation of the Chuvash Republic in the context of adjacent territories, geoinformation modeling of the system of settlement of the territory, identification of points of attraction and zones of agglomeration effect, analysis of the structure of settlement, determination of the boundaries of the agglomeration by two methods: declarative (administrative) and economic geographic (building isochrones), lists of settlements and municipalities were determined for both cases, the population of the agglomeration was calculated, its dynamics from 2010 to 2020, comparisons of agglomerations calculated by two methods were made, the main trends in the transformation of the settlement system of Chuvashia, threats and prospects were identified. The prospects of the study are to use the obtained materials in state and municipal administration, including the implementation of the state demographic policy in the field of agglomeration development, the implementation of the Strategy for Spatial Development of the Russian Federation until 2025 and the Aggressive Infrastructure Development Strategy.
