Abstract

For the world community, throughout its centuries-old existence, art is characterized by a special kind of interaction between the public and the work. The proposed article is devoted to one of the oldest arts - theater - and the consideration of the issues of its origin, development and existence in the modern world. Theatrical art has passed through many cultural and historical epochs. The purpose of the article is to consider the social functioning of the theater as one of the important social institutions from its origins to the present. The article concludes that the theater through its social functioning throughout history has had a strong and versatile impact on society. As a result, the theater went “out of itself” into society, and social theater appeared - a practice in which professional and non-professional theatrical figures solve social problems with the help of theatrical practices.
