Abstract

The international migration of the older generation is becoming particularly relevant due to the intersection of three demographic megatrends – population growth, population aging and migration. Global statistics show that, although the number of elderly among migrants has increased, the proportion of the elderly in the age structure of migration has not changed.162 Russian statistics show about 4 thousand Russian pensioners who moved abroad in 2019. (not including CIS countries)163. Among the countries of Southeast Asia (Southeast Asia), official statistics allow us to quantify the migration of the elderly only to Vietnam (272 people in 2011-2020). However, a two-stage content analysis of the Russian social network Odnoklassniki revealed 807 Russian-language accounts where residence in Southeast Asian countries was noted (Thailand was most often indicated – 278 acc., Vietnam – 166 acc., Singapore – 146 acc.). Pension visas in Southeast Asian countries are not of fundamental importance when moving the elderly, since only in one of the listed countries there is the possibility of special conditions for the older generation to live.
