Abstract

The article analyzes the concept of private military companies in the context of their functioning within the military-political environment. Using the analytical method and the method of system analysis, the main aspects in the development of the institutional component of the PMCs are considered. The most important reasons for such a process are identified and detailed factors such as the removal of conflicts to the periphery and the spread of proxy conflicts, as well as the global political trend towards outsourcing the functions of the armed forces and their redistribution among other actors. The key conclusion in this regard can be considered not just the fixation of the course on the institutionalization of private military companies, but also their actual transformation into a hybrid tool, an intermediate link between classical mercenaries and traditional armed forces of states.
