Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the list of reference settlements that make up the supporting frame of the settlement of the Chuvash Republic using the author's methodology based on the analysis of socio-demographic factors. The methodological base of the research is made up of general logical methods, methods for studying statistics, geoinformation methods (mapping schemes, the isochron method). MS Excel and MS Power BI were used to prepare and process the data, and ESRI ArcGis and Here Studio were used to build maps. The sources of data were local history sources, the data of the All-Russian Population Census-2010 and estimated data on the population in settlements for 2020, as well as data on the availability and quality of social infrastructure facilities in settlements of Chuvashia, presented on the official geoinformation portal of Chuvashia. Results. The article presents a methodology for identifying the «supporting frame of settlement» of the region based on the analysis of socio-demographic factors. In this case, the «basic framework of stratification» is presented as a network of the most stable settlements in terms of their demographic dynamics, as well as the most promising in terms of the availability of the necessary social infrastructure. The methodology made it possible to identify the «supporting frame of settlement» of the Chuvash Republic. The «framework» includes 10 nodal centers, one of which is represented by the Cheboksary agglomeration, while the remaining 9 are «supporting settlements» (including 3 potential and 3 consisting of a pair of adjacent settlements). The result is presented in the form of a map-scheme. The zones of 30 and 60-minute transport accessibility from the nodal centers of the «support frame» were analyzed and visualized. Research prospects. The methodology presented in the article for determining the «support frame of settlement» on the example of the Republic of Chuvashia can serve as a tool for making informed management decisions on the formation of priorities in financing and modernization of nodal centers. This approach will create a situation of «managed compression» and provide the vast majority of the region's population with high-quality social services.
