Abstract

The article examines the attitude to technology and technological progress in Russian society in different periods of its recent history. The article shows how different points of view on the relationship between man and machine, as well as between human civilization and the technosphere, which arose during this historical development, gave rise to various public initiatives. Their influence on the concept of engineering education is shown. In this context, the author focuses on the popularization of design and the achievements of educational communities in support of the humanitarization of engineering education, which are characteristic of the Russian intellectual landscape of the last decades of the twentieth century. Social expertise of technical projects with the participation of the population and the development of value-oriented technologies are possible answers to the challenges faced by humanity at the present stage of its history. However, the Russian intellectual environment has not demonstrated much interest in introducing these approaches into public practice and technical education. At the same time, Russia's leading technical universities are gradually creating a network of enthusiasts who study sociological approaches to evaluating technological solutions and insist on their adaptation to Russian conditions, advocating that such adapted practices be taken into account in the further development of Russian engineering education. According to the author of the article, the further development of this direction in Russia is hindered by insufficient institutionalization. It also requires a broader conceptual framework that takes into account the peculiarities of the Russian intellectual tradition, including the tradition of humanization of technical education.
