Abstract

The author presents a thematic section devoted to sociological studies of visual phenomena. The spread of media is associated with changes in the basic characteristics of social connections and culture. People and digital media technologies are connecting in the arena of current actions, forming new cultural objects and practices. Digital media, even more than the media of previous eras, breaks the boundaries between what we know thanks to our experience and what is known “from the picture.”
