Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of qualitative and quantitative changes the Russian natality caused by the coronavirus pandemic. An analysis of statistical indicators and the results of sociological surveys characterizing the Russian natality for 2020–2021 showed the persistence of the trends that had formed by the beginning of the pandemic, although the overall impact is ambiguous. The adoption of individual reproductive decisions depends on state regulation at the macro level, since it ensures the availability of contraception, abortion, and in vitro fertilization. The temporary closure of reproductive centers and the restriction of cross-border supply of family planning only suspended the stabilization of pre-pandemic trends, and even strengthened them due to the institutionalization of the most relevant programs (for example, surrogacy and online medical abortion).
