Abstract

Urbanization in China is an important dimension of Chinese modernization. For developed countries that have completed modernization, urban life has become a norm in national life. Urbanization no longer seems to be a hot topic, and people are talking more about «urban diseases». But for China, which is still in the middle and late stages of urbanization development, cities have always been symbols of good life, economic development and modernization. In the more than 40 years since the reform and opening up China has carried out large-scale urbanization achieved leapfrog development, and formed its own characteristics. At this stage China's urbanization is at the turning point of entering high-quality development. We need to clearly understand the characteristics, challenges and future development trends of country's urbanization. As the fifth book in the «Comparative Research Series on Social Changes in China and Russia», this book gathers urban development in the modernization of the two countries, covering urban changes, employment, consumption, family structure, education, social welfare and many other contents. The problems faced by the two countries in the process of urbanization development have similarities and differences, and the experiences of the two countries can be learned from each other.
