Abstract

The article presents the results of a sociological study among students and parents of the Vachsky municipal district of the Nizhny Novgorod region, in which an attempt was made to identify their plans for the future, moods, popular professions and directions of educational and labor migration. The analysis of the obtained results allowed us to conclude that the absolute majority of respondents intend to leave their area of residence after finishing grades 9–11 of secondary school in order to receive high-quality higher or secondary vocational education. These plans of students are supported by the majority of their parents. The main criteria for choosing a future profession are not so much demand on the local labor market, as prestige, the prospect of office work or a low proportion of physical labor. 39 Important factors constraining the mass educational and labor migration of young people from the districts of the region, to a large extent, are just the choice of professions that have high competition in the labor market in the regional center and large district cities, as well as the cost of training and related costs.
