Abstract

The paper provides an overview of the theoretical approaches identified by D. Lupton, within the framework of which important sociocultural and political aspects of mobile applications are analyzed. Within the political economy approach, the emphasis is on macro-political parameters: these are social, economic, political structures (age, gender, social class, sexual orientation, race / ethnicity, geographic location), and institutions (workplace, educational institutions, family, economy, Media, etc.). Within a Foucauldian approach, researchers often combine micro- and macro-political dimensions to understand the biopolitical dimension of applications. A micropolitical focus is used by researchers within a sociomaterial approach to explore people's lived experiences of using apps.
