Abstract

The chapter focuses on how Russians perceived the special military operation and its aftermath one year after it began. The chapter examines how Russians' views on the possibility of avoiding an SMO have changed (and analyses whether the divergence of views on this issue reflects a long-standing value and attitudinal split over Russia's civilisational identity), what options Russians believe are most likely to resolve the conflict, how consolidated Russian society has become, and what effects Russians have felt in their everyday lives.
