Abstract

The aggravation of crisis processes in the world calls into question the now dominant type of development. The response to challenges, which are threatening to humanity, can only be found in a gradual transition to the model of sustainable development. The paper examines environmental, economic, social, political and ethical aspects of this problem. The arguments of opponents of the concept of sustainable development are contested: in modern conditions so-called alarmism, in which environmentalists are accused, is more relevant than complacency.
