Abstract

The article is based on translation of one of P.Berger's work, Religious America, secular Europe? A theme and variations, which was written in co-authorship and published in 2009. In his work, P.Berger reconsiders the secularization theory which was earlier proposed by him. The author distinguishes and does not interconnect processes of secularization and modernization anymore. Moreover, the work contains description of multiple modernizations and various scenarios of secularism. The key concept of the work is countersecularization; the forms of new religiosity for Europe and America are considered. The author provides a comparative analysis using a number of indications. The present article will be interesting for all people fond of P.Berger's works, and for everyone who studies processes of religiosity and secularism in the modern society, for everyone looking for macrosociological explanations for transformations of the modern church institute.
