Abstract

Research on Russian students (data of longitudinal survey in 1998, 2001, 2008 of former graduates from high schools of the Novosibirsk region) shows that obtaining a higher level of education tends to a further increase of education, to an acquisition of  knowledge, skills, abilities, and motivations which provide same high level of social and professional status. Investment in human capital in Russia, especially in education, also brings benefits that are not directly related to income, such as a rise in social status and self-assessment.
