Abstract

The article deals with the concept of poverty in the system of Catholic social doctrine from Leo XIII to Francis. The priority is the choice of the Catholic Church in favor of the poor, its proclamation of the right of every person to happiness and a decent life, as well as condemnation of social inequality, selfishness, infatuation with money, profits and consumerism as causes of hunger, poverty, unemployment and emigration.
