Abstract

The research is aimed at revealing the specifics of the collective memory of Russians about the October Revolution of 1917. The theoretical basis is a set of provisions that view historical events as focal points for constructing a collective identity. Today, Russian society as a whole is neutral about the revolution. The memory of the October Revolution in many respects is divorced from concrete personalities, events, and is mediated by a later history. Russians see the main lesson of the revolution not in the conflict or reconciliation of the supporters of traditions and modernity, but in understanding the need for the growth of the internal potential of society for its progressive development.
