Abstract

The article examines the reasons for the involvement of many working women in precarious employment. Empirically comparative analysis is based on biographical data about different types of precarious men and women’s labor careers. The employees of different age, educational level and social background were considered. The author considers female precarious employment as a natural evolution of the main Russian gender contract working mother in context of weak social support for women-mothers and changes in the configuration of their social networks. Author makes a conclusion that precarious employment for them is partly a forced choice, partly a version of appropriate behavior following the requirements of moral rationality, which dictates women certain types of life strategies and career planning. At the same time, many of them find themselves in an extremely losing position in the modern labor market, sacrificing their career prospects, social guarantees and important material resources.
