Abstract

Religiousness was studied by us in the context of poly-ethnicity and poly-confessionalism of the Russian modernity.  Researchers more often register the negative effects of religious involvement than its positive and stabilizing role. Our task consisted in another - to show the resource of the mass All-Russian religiosity in preserving inter-ethnic accord. Studies have shown that the role of religion in interethnic relations is manifested differentially, largely due to the historical and institutional framework of interaction between ethnic and religious communities in Russia. The mass All-Russian religiosity primarily performs the functions of social integration, support of social ties, including inter-ethnic and inter-religious, and expresses solidaristic social orientations. Religiousness in Bashkortostan, the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra and the Moscow agglomeration helps to form attitudes of interethnic tolerance, it reduces the distance in interethnic interactions, increases the willingness to accept people of different nationalities in various spheres of life, maintains a culture of trust. Trust and religiosity can be viewed as the traditional cultural foundations of social solidarity. With a shortage of civil institutions and a developed political culture, generalized and interpersonal trust ensures the productivity of communication, confidence in the government ensures vertical consolidation of society, and religiosity supports moral consensus.
