Abstract

The article highlights and analyzes the main stages of the activities of the section of socio-economic problems and statistics of the St. Petersburg House of Scientists. M. Gorky of the Russian Academy of Sciences in connection with the 65th anniversary of the section and the upcoming 100th anniversary of the House of Scientists (in 2020). The history of the creation of the section in the second half of the 1950s, the activity of combining efforts in conducting scientific research on the socio-economic development of the country and national statistics is considered. The evolution of the main areas of work of the section, which meet the demands of economic and statistical science, as well as practical activities at different stages of development of the USSR and Russia, is shown. The characteristics of the section’s work within the periods chosen are given: 1950-1960s, 1970s, 1980-1990s, from 2000 to the present. Reflects the role of section leaders, leading scholars and practitioners in shaping the topics of section meetings, in expanding the forms of work.
