Abstract

The paper deals with the integration of disabled people into the transforming Russian society and examines their needs in different areas of life. The focus is placed on the disability employment issues, the labor of people with disabilities in private and public companies. The author considers the motives for the employment of disabled people on the labor market and the problems of their labor and legal awareness. The paper notes that the employability of disabled people as one of the largest social groups is not achieved. The research presents the excerpts of interviews of the company leaders who have hired people with disabilities in Moscow and the Republic of Karelia. The study reveals that several disabled people with a proactive attitude seriously change their mind. They do not want to be isolated and get invalidity benefits anymore; therefore, they become self-employed entrepreneurs.
