Abstract

The article describes the structure and main areas of activity of the Russian Society of Sociologists – the successor of the Soviet Sociological Association in Russia and abroad, which in 2018 celebrates its 60th anniversary. Among such areas, we can identify the study of public opinion and the improvement of social policy based on it in the regions of Russia, the cooperation of sociologists from different regions and support of their participation in scientific events both inside the country and abroad, arranging annual conferences and All-Russian Sociological Congresses that unite in one place not only sociologists, but also other members of the Russian scientific community, as well as foreign scientists to discuss the most challenging problems of Russian society through the prism of social science. The authors describe the procedure of organizing and conducting of all-Russian student surveys conducted by the Russian Society of Sociologists and also present the results of some surveys conducted in recent years. These surveys can be considered not only as a public initiative of members of the Russian scientific community, but also as an important example of the scientific cooperation of members of the Russian Society of Sociologists, which significantly increases the contribution of each of them to the development of sociological science and increasing its social role, its social and practical importance. In conclusion, the authors highlight some forms of activity of the Russian Society of Sociologists, which proved to be the most effective and promising to achieve its goals and objectives.
