Abstract

The article discusses family motives for choosing secondary specialized education by grade 9 graduates. The method of interviewing parents of students enrolled in colleges and vocational schools is used. Identified two family educational strategies. In the first case, secondary specialized education is used as an elevator for university entrance. In the second strategy, the family seeks to provide children with a sought-after profession and income. Important reasons for leaving school after grade 9 are low student achievement and fear of passing the EGE.
