Abstract

The features of the development of the higher education system and the characteristics of applicants, students and graduates from 2000-2017 are presented. Both the published state statistics (until 2013) and the authors' calculated indicators based on the primary statistical materials available in 2014-2017 on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation are used. data on admission, competition for admission and distribution of the existing level of education for applicants; the number of students, their composition by sex and age; the issue as a whole and separately for baccalaureate, specialitet, magistrature; by state and non-state institutions; on budgetary and paid study places, on full-time and part-time education departments are analyzed. (where possible the demographic indicators of the number of young people were taken into account).
