Abstract

The article reveals the problem of the relationship between the family life and the work of hired employees in Russia in comparison with other countries of the world based on the analysis of data of the Russian National Monitoring of the Federal Research Sociological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (May 2017), European Social Research (ESS) 2010 and 2012, international studies of attitudes to work, carried out under the ISSP program in 2005, 2015. The purpose of the study is to find the relationship between the characteristic features of work and family balance with success indicators in life (material well-being, level of realization of life plans, sense of happiness). It was revealed that any manifestations of characteristic features of a balance between work and family contribute to higher estimates of success in life. However, tangible contributions are made by those of them that are associated with higher estimates of the real situation at work, and only then by the situation in the family. Compared to employees in other European countries, Russians are the least satisfied with the ratio of time spent on work and time devoted to other aspects of life (according to ESS). Russian employees, both men and women, were in the last place in comparison with employees in other countries of the world in interference assessment of the family with the work (according to the ISSP). Behind the facts that have been discovered there is a problem of the adaptation of Russians to unstable working and living conditions, a worsening situation at work. Family life hinders the work of the Russians least of all because it is not seen as a significant obstacle in the way of earnings. In this regard, for Russian employees, raising the degree of balance between work and family is possible only if the situation at work improves.
