Abstract

In the years 1913–1914. the fi rst attempt was made by publishing in the form of four issues of the regular periodical journal “New Ideas in Sociology”, ed. M. M. Kovalevsky and E. V. de Roberti. Organizational and coordination work – to be the responsible secretary of the publication – was undertaken in the future by the largest economist N. D. Kondratiev, whose works in the aftermath in many ways were not only economic, but also sociological vision of many social processes. In these issues, the fundamentally important articles of the young PA. Sorokin were published, in which the foundations of future integrated sociology were laid. Creating these issues, its organizers and creators set a goal to solve several important problems. First, to declare such a science as sociology have the right to its existence, to show that it opens up new facets of the cognition of society. Secondly, in opening the fi rst collection, it was proclaimed that the primary concern is the development and substantiation of the subject, boundaries, methods, the theoretical and practical value of sociology. Thirdly, the editors announced that they would continue the discussion on the fundamental problems of sociology, that they would do everything possible to promote the publication of new ideas – “new truths, discoveries in the unknown.” Supporting contacts and using data from other sciences, the editors called at the same time to defi ne their search fi eld more clearly, especially when compared with such related sciences as biology, psychology and philosophy.
