Abstract

Today, the best minds of the humankind and its political elite are concerned about the transition of national states and the global community as a whole to a qualitatively new state due to the information and communication revolution. Although her first theoreticians claimed that this transition has a global-local character, the analysis of local ecosystems has moved into the background. That is why the fundamental study by the American scientist D. Stokes carried out at the beginning of the 2000s today has not only scientific but also socio-cultural significance, especially bearing in mind the sharp weakening of family and neighborly relations and those in Russia and the world. The issue is the subject and method of an integrated (systemic) branch of science called social ecology whose the founding fathers in the 1920s were American sociologists R. Park, W. Thomas, L. Wirth and many others. In historiographical works on sociology, the Chicago School of Human Ecology is considered one of the six main lines of development of sociological thought. Therefore, it seems to me extremely important to “return” to the problem of the social ecology of the changes taking place in the world, despite the fact that this book is based mainly on American material. And to return in the broadest possible political and sociocultural context.
