Abstract

The article analyzes the effects of digital technology on the socio-economic development of Russian society. As part of the study, we analyzed the degree of development of information infrastructure in the regions of the Russian Federation, as well as general economic indicators of the development of regions. The influence of education development indicators on socio-economic development is investigated. The following indicators are analyzed as indicators of the development of higher education in the regions: the number of students studying under the undergraduate programs, specialty, magistracy per 10,000 people, the number of universities, and the number of teachers. The main hypothesis of the study - digitalization has a positive impact on regional economic development. The research hypothesis is checked by evaluating panel models with fixed and random effects on data for 2010-2018. The model includes variables characterizing the digitalization level of households and enterprises, economic development, and education. The analysis showed that digitalization and informatization indicators have an impact on regional development. The obtained results of the regression model indicate the need for investments in higher education and the involvement of highly qualified personnel in higher educational institutions, since these indicators affect the accumulation of intellectual capital in the region and, as a consequence, the potential for its future development.
