Abstract

The article discusses pages of the economic history of China related to the processes of development, formulation and adoption of strategies for spatial regional development from 1949 to the present. There are several stages in the evolution of the regional development of China. During the first stage (1949-1978), there was a process of development, adoption of a set of measures for leveling, and subsequently balanced spatial regional development; regional projects were adopted as part of the construction of a planned economy for the decisive development of East, Central and West China. At the second stage (1978-1999) of the spatial development of the PRC, the implementation of the regional unbalanced development strategy begins within the framework of the policy of “reform and openness” and focus on accelerated growth of the eastern coastal regions of China. The general upsurge of the national economy and the increasing unevenness of socio-economic regional development influenced the transition to a new stage of spatial organization of the PRC economy (1999 - present) as part of the implementation of the strategy for regional coordinated development. The article identifies the features of solving the problem of socio-economic unevenness in the development of Chinese regions. The historical experience reflecting the development trends of the regions of China in the framework of the implementation of spatial development strategies over a long period from 1949 to the present allows us to focus on the tactics of forming a system of spatial organization of the economy in the context of economic growth goals.
