Abstract

The center of regional sociology and conflict resolution studies, Institute of sociology RAS FNESC together with other units FNESC RAS and regional partners in 2019 a comprehensive study of the problems of small towns in contemporary Russia. The first results of the study were presented in the electronic monograph Small cities in the social space of Russia, which examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of the study, domestic and foreign experience in improving small cities, and identifies the most urgent and acute problems of small Russian cities development with access to strategies and practices for their solution. Special attention is paid to recommendations on how to eliminate negative trends in the socio-economic and socio-cultural spheres of small towns. This monograph presents the results of ongoing large-scale socio-economic and sociological research, raises a number of controversial issues of economic and sociological dimensions of the development of small cities, reveals the historical, socio-cultural, migration, territorial, and conflict-related features of their formation. A new approach to the formation of a promising direction in the development of the state policy of spatial development of Russia is proposed. The monograph will be of interest both for researchers and specialists in sociology and regional studies, as well as for managers and specialists in the field of local, regional and Federal levels of government.
