Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become anew factor inchanging the migration situation in the world. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on migration mobility was extremely negative in Russia and post-Soviet countries. Before the pandemic, the migration corridor between the CIS countries and the Russian Federation was one of the largest in the world, with about 6 million people participating in migration. Migration between the CIS countries has been almost completely frozen. A sharp reduction in remittances will be a serious challenge for the main donor countries of migrant workers in the CIS, whose citizens are employed mainly in Russia and Kazakhstan. The reduction in remittances will particularly affect Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
