Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the current migration situation in the Russian Federation. The methodological base of the research consists of the main principles and provisions of economic and sociological approaches to the study of migration and migration processes. Research result. As a result of the analysis of the migration situation and migration activity in the Russian Federation, it is noted that the migration situation in Russia during the pandemic and the isolation regime has undergone certain changes. Migration growth in Russia in 2020 decreased twice in comparison with 2019, and labor migrants found themselves in a difficult situation: in Russia, a number of enterprises were forced to stop their activities, as a result, a significant number of labor migrants were left without jobs and means of livelihood. Due to the closure of borders, the flow of labor migrants to Russia has significantly decreased, and a significant number of migrants who were in Russia at that time were forced to leave for their homeland (if possible). The perspective of the study is that due to the increasing number of coronavirus infections, there is a possibility of extending or resuming restrictive measures, which will undoubtedly affect the situation of migrants and the migration situation in Russia as a whole.
